Not too long ago, my son Brian and I set up a couple of bluebird houses in our back yard. If you are not familiar with these, they are bird houses that are set up with certain exact dimensions (size of interior, access hole size, etc.) that somehow make them attractive and practical only for bluebirds. These birds have the most beautiful blue colored feathers on their backs, and a rust colored chest and throat. Their songs are amazing to listen to. I came home from work at lunch yesterday, and was surprised to see a couple of pairs of blue birds looking them over! I have not really seen any all winter, and almost magically, here they are! Hopefully they will choose these houses as their homes for this spring, nest and have their own little blue bird families that we can enjoy.
Just another example of God's amazing creation!!

You're so lucky! We have a couple of bluebird houses (at least I think they are) that were here before we moved in, but I haven't seen much bluebird activity over the years. They truly are beautiful birds. My latest bird endeavor was to hang a wren house. I was so excited when a pair actually moved in and raised some young in the house. Wrens just seem to have a lot of personality to me, and when I unexpectedly come up on them outside, they wouldn't hardly pay me any mind, but continue about their business as usual. It was fascinating. Maybe you city folk see a lot more of wrens than I do. I haven't had anymore residents since that first pair.
I have another bird story that I've considered sharing for the children's sermon sometime. My hubby put up a stand for hanging plants and what-not from and anchored it in the "flower bed" (mostly grass & weeds) outside the kitchen windows. So I bought a lovely bird feeder, filled it with seed, and excitedly waited for the birds to come. Well, it wasn't long before I looked up and noticed a fine feathered friend eagerly devouring his feast. But he wasn't exactly who I was expecting. Oh, he was very colorful with beautiful plumage, a good-sized bird, though not the most graceful. Have you guessed yet that my visitor was indeed a chicken? She had hopped up on the birdbath, and was munching away! Naturally I was quite disappointed and a bit annoyed, and I proceeded to shoo him away. Of course, it wasn't long before he was back, bringing friends! I couldn't help but compare that chicken to us as sinners and the birdfeeder to God's table of grace. It reminded me that no matter how "ugly" we are, God is never disappointed to see us at His feeder. He's not looking for the prettiest songbird or the rare migrant just passing through--he wants me, the chicken, just as I am. And even though I'm only a chicken, he sees passed the ugly to the beauty he created.
I'm still very unhappy when I see a chicken at my birdfeeder, but I don't mind the little reminder...
Keep the bird stories coming!
Cool story!! Don't compare yourself though to an ugly chicken!!
